Maquet, in conjunction with the Acute Cardiology Unit in the Mater Hospital is organising a half day training programme. This will take place on Saturday 4th Feb 2012 in the Pillar Room in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital. As you are
probably aware, they held similar half day training sessions in 2011 which were very successful. Places were limited so some people had to be refused and put on a waiting list - hence another training day. See program attached.
The training will commence at 8.30am until 12.30pm and will cover all
aspects of the theory and practice of intra-aortic balloon pump therapy. This is suitable for all staff having responsibility for patients undergoing this therapy. The day is free of charge and literature, handouts and refreshments will be provided.
This programme is an excellent opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the role of the IABP in the unstable patient, to learn more about Maquet's products and expected level of service and support. This session would be valuable for those who do not currently use the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), but may be considering this therapy as a future treatment option.
These study days are usually very popular so to be sure of securing places, early booking is advised. On this occasion we are limiting the numbers to 30 to accommodate workshops. To do this, submit your name and contact details as soon as possible and at the latest Friday the 20th January to Catherine on 01-4260032 or by email to coneill@maquet.ie .
The full program for the 4th Electrical Therapies for the Heart Meeting which will take place on Saturday, January 28th at the Connolly Hospital Academic Centre, Blanchardstown is now available.
This meeting is the only national meeting specifically concetrating on the areas of implntable devices and electrophysiology. This year's meeting will concentrate on the topics of syncope and atrial fibrillation.

The talks on atrial fibrillation will look at the best medication for AF, the pharmoeconomics of AF, important in the light of new medications such as dabigatran, and which patients should be referred for ablation.
An interactive session will follw which will look at devices in practice, left atrial angiography and intracardiac electrogram reading made easy!
The last session will be an opportunity for delegates to fool the experts with ECG or device strips that they bring along....and that my friends os the cost of admission...one ECG strip! The meeting will finish up at 1pm with lunch.

The Clinical Measurement Report is now available and the question is where do we go from here? The IICMS is organising a meeting of representatives from all disciplines with respect of how to progress the implementation of the report. This is not an opportunity to change the report but it is a chance to give some input into what things are important to you working in the Cardiology field.
This report is perhaps the most important recent document on our profession as it finalises the Working Party Review which began in 2000. Therefore we strongly urge you to read the full report available here and give us your opinions.
Email your opinions to editor@isct.ie or any member of the ISCT committee
